About Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
How do I know if Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is right for me?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a gentle, positive approach that focuses on your future. It’s ideal for anyone who would like support in a calm, encouraging way and is ready to work towards small, manageable steps that lead to long‑term change. If you’re unsure, your free initial consultation will give us space to explore this together and help you decide whether this approach feels right.
Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helpful if other therapies haven’t worked for me?
If you’re tired of feeling stuck in familiar patterns, repeating the same negative thoughts, or talking about your problems without feeling any real shift, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy may offer the change you’ve been looking for. It’s a positive forward‑looking approach that helps you move towards where you’d like to be, without needing to revisit the past or stay caught up in what’s been difficult. Many people choose it when they’re ready for a more reassuring, future‑focused way to feel better.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy guides you into a deeply relaxed state where the mind becomes quieter and more settled. In this calm, focused state, the subconscious becomes more receptive to supportive ideas and helpful shifts in thinking. This gentle process allows new patterns, beliefs and behaviours to form, supporting meaningful change and helping you move forward from a wide range of challenges.
Suitability & Safety
Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is a completely natural and safe state of focused relaxation. In Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we use relaxation, positive visualisations and positive suggestions to help calm the part of the brain where negative emotions are generated. As sessions progress, many people find they feel more balanced and grounded, with a growing sense of resilience. Clients often notice they handle worries and challenges more easily, without becoming overwhelmed, and begin to feel more like themselves again.
Do I need to talk about past experiences, negative memories or trauma?
No. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy does not require you to revisit the past. Focusing on difficult memories can be emotionally exhausting and isn’t needed for a positive, future‑focused therapeutic process.
If you feel you need to explore past experiences in detail, it may be more appropriate to consider other forms of therapy designed for that type of work.
Is my problem too complex for hypnotherapy?
Highly unlikely. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is designed to support people with a wide range of concerns. During sessions, we use gentle scaling to explore how you’re feeling and to track your progress in a calm, supportive way. Over time, many people notice shifts in how they cope, respond and feel, even when their difficulties initially seemed overwhelming.
Can this approach work alongside other therapies?
Yes. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can work comfortably alongside many other therapeutic approaches. Because it is gentle and future‑focused, it often complements other forms of support. We can talk this through before we begin to make sure everything feels safe, balanced and right for you.
What age groups do you work with?
I work with people aged 14 and above. If a child is younger than 14, I’m happy to arrange a call to talk things through and explore the best next steps.
Can I be hypnotised if I have ADHD or autism?
Yes. People who have ADHD, have autism, or who simply experience busy minds often respond very well to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. You don’t need to ‘empty your mind’, hypnosis is simply a relaxed, focused state, and it can be experienced in many different ways. We work gently, at your pace, and the relaxation element can be especially supportive for people who find it hard to switch off or settle. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, and being open to the experience is all that’s needed.
Before your First Session
What should I expect in the Initial Consultation?
A gentle, relaxed conversation where we explore what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’d like to change, and what you’d like to move towards. It’s also a chance to ask any questions and get a feel for how I work, helping you decide whether I’m the right therapist for you. I’ll explain how the brain influences the way we feel, and how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy supports positive change. There is no hypnosis during this session.
What if I’m nervous about trying hypnotherapy?
It’s completely normal to feel unsure if you’ve never experienced hypnotherapy before. The FREE Initial Consultation offers a gentle space to ask questions, understand the process, and feel comfortable before deciding whether to begin therapy.
Practical Information
Can sessions be online?
Yes. Sessions can be in person or online, and both work very well. You’ll just need a comfortable place to sit or lie down, with your head supported, where you won’t be disturbed.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. Some people notice changes quickly, while for others the process unfolds more gradually. As a guide, most clients achieve progress within 8–12 sessions, sometimes less, whilst some may benefit from more. Smoking or vaping cessation may be completed in a one‑off 2‑hour session. The number of sessions you’re likely to need will be discussed during your Initial Consultation, so you’ll have a clear idea before we begin.
How long do the effects last?
The changes created through Solution Focused Hypnotherapy are designed to be long‑lasting. Once you’ve had the right number of sessions for your needs, many people find they continue to feel the benefits without needing ongoing therapy. Some clients choose to return in the future for occasional relaxation sessions or to help them stay on track, but this isn’t usually necessary. By this stage, the helpful patterns and responses established during therapy are already well embedded.

What Sessions Are Like
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Sessions are relaxed, calm and supportive. We begin with a gentle conversation about how you’d like things to be, focusing on your goals and the small, manageable steps that can help you move towards them. Each session ends with soothing, deeply relaxing hypnosis that helps your mind become more open to the positive changes you want for yourself. You remain fully in control throughout, and many people leave feeling clearer, refreshed, and with a renewed sense of perspective.
Am I in control during hypnosis?
Yes, you remain fully in control throughout the entire process. Most people drift into a deeply relaxed state, so your awareness may gently shift or feel softer at times - this is completely normal. You can open your eyes, move, or stop the hypnosis whenever you choose, and hypnosis cannot be used on anyone who is not willing to engage in it.
Will I be asleep during hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state, similar to daydreaming. You remain aware, comfortable and in control throughout. Many people naturally drift in and out of the experience, a bit like when you’re settling down to sleep and your mind gently wanders, but you are never actually asleep. Your mind still absorbs the calming tone and supportive suggestions. You won’t miss anything important, and the therapeutic effect is not lost. This gentle shift in awareness is completely normal and part of the therapeutic process.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Clients often describe hypnosis as a shift into a quieter, calmer state. Listening to my voice, your attention may gently drift towards your own thoughts and sensations, and naturally drift back into the moment whenever you need to. Some people notice their breathing slowing; others feel a pleasant heaviness in the body; and some simply experience a steady, peaceful stillness. Everyone experiences it slightly differently, but it’s consistently described as soothing, relaxing, and an enjoyable state to be in.
Can everyone experience hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that most people move into every day without realising it. When you’re daydreaming, deeply absorbed in something, or drifting into that relaxed space just before sleep, your mind is already entering a similar focused, calm state. Even a light level of trance can be therapeutic, and the benefits build gradually as you become familiar with the feeling of relaxation. Over time, it becomes easier to settle your body and calm your mind during sessions. Hypnotherapy works best when you feel open to the process and willing to engage, as it’s a collaborative approach between you and me, your therapist.
What if I struggle to relax?
Many people worry about this, especially if they feel tense, overwhelmed or unable to switch off. Relaxation isn’t something you have to get right, it naturally develops as you become familiar with the process. Even a light level of relaxation is therapeutic, and your mind will still benefit from the calm, steady rhythm of the session. Over time, most people find it becomes easier to settle, breathe more comfortably and allow the experience to unfold.
